The Illustrator ~ Caroline Appleyard

Caroline Appleyard is a self-taught artist. Her playful and quirky style appeals to children and adults alike and her interest in seaside scenes made her the author’s first choice to illustrate the Walcombe Bay series of books.

Caroline has a passion for travelling and scuba diving, hence the vibrancy of her wonderful coloured sea scenes in the pictures she exhibits. She is one of half a dozen artists in the world who paint underwater!

One of the hazards she faces whilst doing this is being stung by passing jellyfish, but even worse than that, she says, are the crabs who make off with her paints!

During a recent diving trip to Orkney she was fortunate enough to see a pod of Orcas swimming where they should be - in the wild!
